About Otolo

  • Otolo was set up by a group of individuals who wanted to uplift and support the hospitality industry. At Otolo, we believe that this can be done by formally providing support that the industry doesn’t usually offer.

We offer a free hospitality Mentoring programme that is open to everyone who works in hospitality and our training courses will focus on the development of the individual as opposed to traditional courses for hospitality, such as hygiene training.

You can find out more about our mission here, our team here and our mentoring programme here.

 FAQs for Mentors

  • If you have messaged your Mentee and have not received a response within 72 hours (3 days), please contact us here. One of the Otolo team will support you with this.

  • In the Mentor Induction session we will discuss Safeguarding. If you have any concerns that your Mentee is at risk of harming themselves, you, or another person, you must contact us immediately. You can do this by clicking here. We will then take over the process to safeguard you and your Mentee.

  • Firstly, take a look at your Mentee’s goals on Otolo PushFar. This should give you an indication of what they’d like to achieve from your time together.
You could also look them up on LinkedIn (if they have one) to understand their career background and where they have previously worked.
Finally, we would always recommend messaging them on the Otolo PushFar platform to ask them if there is anything specific that they’d like your input on.

  • A good place to start is by reading through the Mentor Hub to refresh your memory on ways to approach the Mentoring Sessions.

You’re also very welcome to attend the Mentor Induction as many times as you’d like until you feel confident in your Mentoring sessions.

  • Month 1:

  • When you complete your profile on Otolo PushFar there is a section that you will be asked to fill out called ‘Mentoring Preferences’. You will have selected ‘Mentor someone’, and below this, there is a textbox and checkboxes.

At Otolo HQ, we use this Mentoring Preferences section to match you with your Mentee. To ensure that the match is a great one please use this free writing section to give as much detail as possible on what skills, experience and expertise you can bring to this mentorship.

 FAQs for Mentees

  • To add your goals, click on the ‘Home’ tab on the Otolo PushFar platform.

Once you are there you have two ways of adding a goal, you can either navigate to the ‘Your Goals’ section of the page and click on ‘add goal’. You can also click on the purple circle with a ‘+’ symbol in it. Both of these options will allow you to add a goal to your list.

  • Once you have made progress and completed a goal, click on the small box on the left of the goal and wait a few moments.

This box will tick, and the goal will vanish from the list.

You can view the list of your progress by clicking ‘view completed goals’ at the bottom of your list of goals.

  • The Otolo team will match you with a mentor they feel will suit you best based on the answers you provided in your onboarding questionnaire. Once you are matched with a Mentor, you will receive an email to notify you that you have been matched.

You will also be notified of your Mentor match on the ‘Notification’ tab on the Otolo PushFar platform.

  • On the Otolo PushFar platform, click on the ‘Notifications’ tab. You will have a notification that informs you of your match with a mentor. Here you can click on their profile.

Once on their profile, you can send them a message and can also contact them via email. Once you have been introduced, please do write to them to introduce yourself as their Mentee. It is always nice to tell them a bit about what you do currently and what you would like to achieve during your Mentorship.

  • You can ‘Schedule’ a call with your Mentor via the Otolo PushFar platform by clicking on their profile and selecting ‘Schedule call’.

You can also organise to have a call with your Mentor via another platform such as Teams or Zoom.

We do request that you log your mentoring sessions and you will receive an email each month reminding you to.

  • If you have messaged your Mentor and you have not received a response within 72 hours, then please get in touch with us here. One of the Otolo team will then support you with this.

  • Once you have been approved as a Mentee on the Otolo Mentoring Programme, your first three coaching sessions will be arranged directly with your employer who will invite you to the sessions. If you cannot attend the date you’re booked for, please inform your employer.

  • Throughout the 12-month Otolo Mentoring Programme, you will be asked to attend three group coaching sessions.

During these sessions, you will discuss your goals and how you’re progressing with them. You will also discuss any challenges you’re facing and outline your next steps.

The purpose of this being a group session is to support and guide each other, so please do not worry about talking as part of a group.

  • We suggest that you look at the notes, goals and actions that you previously noted down and review them. Write down any thoughts, topics or questions that you would like to discuss with your Mentor. It is also helpful to think about what they can support you with or any questions that you’d like to ask them.

This will help you make the most out of your hour session with them. The Mentoring sessions are there to help you make progress, and they are most impactful if you have things in mind or prepared beforehand that you’d like to discuss.

  • Before the session, we encourage you to take a look at the notes, goals and actions that you have written down so far in the programme.

What goal do you feel you have taken action on?

Was it simple or challenging, why?

Have you not taken any action toward the goal? Why do you think that is?

Robyn’s top tip: go into the coaching session with clear intentions. What would you like to come away with from the session? Would you like clarity around something you’re unsure about? Would you like help with ideas on how to move forward? Or maybe, you just need some motivation?

The session will help you to reframe some of your outlooks towards your goals.

  • The Mentoring and Coaching sessions will be an hour long. Do make sure you have enough time set aside for the call. We also recommend that you set aside 30 minutes before and after the call to give you time to prepare and go over your notes. After the session, you can set your focus for the coming weeks with clear action points.
